High School Department Chairs and Math Representatives

Every site, PreK-12, has a teacher leader team. In high schools, this team may include a Department Chair or Math Representative, Course Leads, or CI Teacher Facilitator. Teacher Leaders work with site administrators to support ongoing collaborative planning and professional learning at their sites. Teacher Leaders foster an understanding of the development of mathematical concepts in the Core Curriculum units and pedagogical structures that support the Standards for Mathematical Practice. They receive professional development on curriculum, pedagogy, and supporting peer collaboration from the Curriculum and Instruction Department.
Monthly Math Meetings:

To give each high school a voice in district-wide discussions and to support a district-wide math community, each high school will send a math representative to our monthly after school high school math meetings. Large high schools send Department Chairs and small high schools send a Math Representative.
We will continue building a district-wide high school math learning community that addresses implementation of the core curriculum at their own sites, including:
  • Structural components: student placement, graduation requirements, student copies and distribution of materials, SBAC, etc.
  • Pedagogical components: content and pacing of upcoming units, heterogeneous courses, differentiation, supporting student discourse, use of technology, etc.
  • Leadership components: tools and strategies to facilitate collaborative planning at sites with a specific focus on Algebra 1 for all 9th graders and Geometry for all 10th graders.
This community will also share information and feedback about district policies, practices, and opportunities for math teachers and students.
