OUR PARTNERS

We partner with organizations all over the Bay Area as well as specialists within our district to support and improve Math instructions in SFUSD.

Our current external partners include SERP, the Bay Area Math Project at The Lawrence Hall of Science, and San Francisco State University.

Internally we work with the other STEM departments, as well as the Multilingual Pathways, Special Education, and Professional Learning departments to bring the highest quality support to our teachers and students.

Our SFUSD Partners

We are very fortunate to have input and help from colleagues throughout the district!   All are members of the Math Working Group, which meets regularly to advise and support us in our work.

SERP’s mission is to conduct a program of “use-inspired” research and development, with a goal of developing, testing, and mobilizing effective programs and practices. Problems of student achievement, and the practices that support it, are at center stage in determining the research and development agenda. The work places as much emphasis on follow-through to link knowledge and products as on research. Much of the research is carried out in classrooms, where innovative materials, methods, professional development, and organizational supports are developed, tested, honed, and taken to scale.

Harold Asturias
Dr. Harold Asturias is the Director of the Center for Mathematics Excellence and Equity at the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley. Before that, he was the Deputy Director of  the Mathematics and Science Professional Development at the University of California Office of the President. Previously, he led the development team of experts whose efforts, involving many states and over a thousand teachers, resulted in the successful creation of two assessment systems based on national Performance Standards. He has extensive  experience providing consultation and professional development in the areas of standards and assessment in mathematics for teachers in large urban districts and smaller districts. Over the past few years he has focused on the area of designing and implementing professional development connecting math and language for K- 12 California mathematics teachers.
