SVMI (the Silicon Valley Math Initiative) Professional Development Opportunities

The Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative offers the following professional development opportunities for our member school districts.

Coaching Institute
Initial summer professional development for teachers to introduce them to the coaching experience.

SVMI Professional Development Meetings

Monthly professional development for coaches and teams of teachers, including training on findings from the MARS performance assessments.

Math Network Meetings
Professional development for math coaches on math content, teaching strategies, and learning theory.

General MAC Meetings
Meetings of district administrators and math coaches to review the MARS performance assessment, discuss administrative policies, and review preliminary results of the assessment.

Lesson Study
Teams of teachers collaborate with a math coach to research, plan, teach and/or observe, and analyze mathematics lessons.

Leadership Institute
Intensive training in math content and pedagogy for coaches and emerging district leaders during the spring and summer.

MAC Related Events
Training for new scorers, scoring leaders, and coaches on the MARS performance assessment.

Algebra Tiles in Middle School

Learn more about how Algebra Tiles are used in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and how that work supports students into Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. Educators who attend will receive payment for 2 extended hours.

Education Northwest is looking for creative and innovative math educators experienced in training other teachers to be successful in their classrooms.

Education Northwest—a research, consulting, and professional development organization, and the Education Development Center have an exciting opportunity for you! They are recruiting 80 master teachers to facilitate intensive, transformational, and successful face-to-face professional development. These two-day trainings will be delivered during the summer months of July and August throughout schools serving our military families here and abroad.
